Happy Serenity Day!Firefly was an excellent show. I am sure that Serenity will be an excellent movie.
The kids of Geekfest 2005 will be there, in home made T-shirts and internet purchased buttons.
I am just wondering what it is about our culture that makes us all feel the need to bond over entertainment. What creates hard core fans? And fan groups (Firefly/Serenity's fan base is called The Browncoats, by the way)? It is more than just an appreciation for a show or movie, that is sure. It also has something to do with the comraderie, with the group dynamic. Star Wars Geeks (capital G) are not formed just by an obsession with Star Wars, after all. There are people who love Star Wars who don't dress up and stand in long lines waiting for a premiere. It is an interesting part of our culture...is it a reaction to the super isolation of the computer age? Perhaps a way to connect in an almost anonymous fashion? I dunno.
Anyway, bit since my last post, I've:
- Attended my sister's 18th birthday party
- Emerged from a vist to the past, unscathed
- Seen some of my friends achieve life goals (professional acting)
- Watched a bunch of television premieres
- Taken a stripper class (erotic aerobics)
- Seen a beautiful man interview for a job with my company
- Totally skimped on my marathon training
- Hosted Geekfest 2005
- Attended graduate class
- Plotted a short story
- Gotten repeatedly scratched by my cat for allowing the vet to stick things up her butt
- Been pretty damn happy with life.
Woohoo, Serenity! I don't understand fanaticism, but I sure am excited!
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just gonna ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.
